Wayfarer TV exclusive: inside the new, California-cool Santa Monica Proper Hotel

by James Wilkinson

One of the most anticipated new hotels in the United States this year has been the Santa Monica Proper Hotel, thanks to its California-cool interiors, stunning architecture and brilliant food and beverage.

The latest opening from the Proper Hotels team of Brad Korzen and Brian De Lowe (also founders of popular Viceroy Hotel Group), this property exudes sophistication, seaside glamour and laid-back California living.

The interiors at the Santa Monica Proper Hotel from celebrated designer Kelly Wearstler are impeccable

The work from interior designer Kelly Wearstler – in the form of nature-inspired palettes, light hardwood floors and organic textures throughout the 271 rooms and lobby areas – is brilliant and masterfully at home in the hotel’s two buildings, a 1928-built Spanish Colonial Revival landmark building and a sleek, contemporary new-build.

Food and beverage accentuates the experience, courtesy of in-demand Angeleno chefs Jessica Koslow (Sqirl) and Gabriela Camara (Contramar) at their Californian- and Mexican-inspired collaboration restaurant Onda, and atop the hotel at Santa Monica’s hottest new rooftop venue Calabra featuring Mediterranean cuisine from executive chef Kaleo Adams.

The Santa Monica Proper Hotel lobby is a real stand-out at this hot new California property

The hotel also has a rooftop pool with cabanas, co-working spaces and the most stylish lobby bar to have graced LA’s Westside in decades.

To find out more about this stylish new property, WAYFARER Host and Editor-In-Chief, James Wilkinson, exclusively spoke on camera at the Santa Monica Proper Hotel with Area Director of Sales and Marketing, Angela Lockyer.
