Wayfarer exclusive: inside the stylish Hotel 50 Bowery in New York City

by James Wilkinson

Located at the crossroads of Chinatown, the Lower East Side, SoHo, and Little Italy, Hotel 50 Bowery has a fantastic location to explore the best of Manhattan. To find out what makes the property so unique, Wayfarer’s James Wilkinson spoke to Hotel 50 Bowery General Manager, Andrew Brown.

The Hotel 50 Bowery is popular on so many levels, from the location to the design, rooms and food and beverage on offer. Tell us about your favourite things of the property.

My favourite things about the property are our common space on the second floor, and The Crown, our rooftop lounge.

Our second-floor common area provides a tranquil space amidst the bustle of the city for our guests to relax either indoors or outdoors with seating, games, a shared workspace, and more.

The Crown rooftop is also wonderful. There are only a handful of places in NYC that can compete with the views that we have up there.

Tell us about the stylish rooms and suites on offer.

Our hotel offers thoughtfully designed, spacious rooms and suites that pair contemporary, downtown style with one of the property’s biggest advantages: floor-to-ceiling windows with impressive Lower Manhattan views, evoking a strong sense of place rather than the feel of a conventional Manhattan hotel.

Most rooms also feature rainfall showers, plush robes and slippers, blackout curtains, Sealy mattresses and more.

Tell us about the fantastic food and beverage on offer.

Food and beverage is an important part of the overall experience at Hotel 50 Bowery. Our rooftop lounge, The Crown, allows us to take our guests from breakfast through lunch, to dinner, cocktails, and late-night bites with ease.

We start the day with a great breakfast selection: think staples like fresh fruit, avocado toast, and a BEC, alongside signature items like the Royal Omelet, all complemented by For Five coffee and espresso.

As the day progresses, The Crown evolves into a distinctive destination for lunch and dinner, and then really comes alive in the evening with cocktails, music, lighter bites, dancing, and of course, those incredible panoramic views.

For me, the range of well-executed offerings is what makes The Crown truly special. Great food and beverage throughout the day, an amazing atmosphere, and one of the best rooftop perspectives in downtown New York.

What’s your X-factor at Hotel 50 Bowery?

First, I’d say our location, and the sense of place which can be felt throughout the property.

We’re not a hotel that could simply be picked up and placed in another city—or even another neighborhood in New York. We are very much a product of where we are located.

We sit at an incredible intersection of Chinatown, the Lower East Side, SoHo and Little Italy, surrounded by some of the best food, culture, nightlife and history in New York.

Our goal is to connect our guests to that energy and to give them an experience that feels genuinely rooted in downtown Manhattan.

But ultimately, I believe that our real X-factor is our people. A great location and a beautiful hotel may get a guest through the door, but genuine hospitality rooted in thoughtful touches and meaningful human interactions is what makes them remember us and return.

How important is loyalty, particularly with the strength of World of Hyatt?

Loyalty is incredibly important to us at Hotel 50 Bowery, and the strength of World of Hyatt gives us a tremendous advantage.

As General Manager, I see loyalty as much more than a points program—it’s about building lasting relationships with our guests and giving them a reason to choose Hotel 50 Bowery every time they return to New York City.

World of Hyatt connects us to an incredibly engaged community of travellers who know the brand and value the recognition and benefits that come with their membership.

Our responsibility at the hotel level is to bring that loyalty to life. That means recognising our members, delivering their benefits consistently, understanding their preferences, and finding extra opportunities to personalise their experience.

What is particularly exciting for us is the opportunity to combine the strength of World of Hyatt with the individuality of our neighbourhood hotel.

Our guests receive the benefits and confidence of being part of a global loyalty program, while still experiencing a property with a distinctive downtown New York identity, deep roots in the Bowery and Chinatown communities, and a very personal approach to hospitality.

Ultimately, loyalty is earned one stay and one interaction at a time. My goal is for every current and prospective World of Hyatt member to leave our hotel feeling that we genuinely recognized their loyalty and gave them an experience they couldn’t have had anywhere else, with any other program.

What are some of your favourite things to do in the local area?

One of my favourite things about Hotel 50 Bowery is that the neighbourhood itself is an experience. We’re right at the crossroads of Chinatown, the Lower East Side, SoHo, and Little Italy, so I always encourage our guests to get out and explore on foot.

I love just walking through Chinatown, discovering the incredible food and local shops, and spending time in Columbus Park to really see the neighbourhood come to life.

One of my personal favorite restaurants is Chinese Tuxedo—it has a fantastic atmosphere and is a great example of the surrounding dining scene.

From there, I like to wander into SoHo for shopping, explore the galleries and nightlife of the Lower East Side, or head downtown toward the Seaport and waterfront for some historic sights.

One of the greatest advantages of a stay at 50 Bowery is the plethora of incredible food, culture, history, and NYC energy available right outside our front door.
