‘New beginnings’: The Eve Hotel Sydney welcomes guests to design-driven boutique hotel experience

Sydney’s latest boutique hotel has made an entrance with The Eve Hotel Sydney welcoming its first guests on Thursday February 13, 2025.

Located within the new Wunderlich Lane lifestyle precinct between Redfern and Surry Hills, the hotel is flanked by numerous food and beverage venues, and an upcoming event venue, Saltbox. Owner Toga Group and operator TFE Hotels welcomed media and partners to explore the 102-room luxury hotel on Wednesday evening through a series of activations within guest rooms.

From artist portraits and love letters hand-crafted in calligraphy to scent-filled rooms to showcase its partnership with local brand Saardé – who have curated the hotel’s bathroom amenities. “Our name, The Eve, celebrates new beginnings and moments of anticipation before something extraordinary unfolds,” The Eve Hotel Sydney General Manager, Ben Mellor, told guests. “Tonight marks a culmination of some incredible work by a passionate army of people as we officially launch the hotel. Allan Vidor, Toga Group [Managing Director], and our makers have created something incredibly special.
“The Eve experience has been designed to reflect the energy of Redfern and Surry Hills and Sydney’s status as a truly international city. “We’ve chosen the pomegranate as the Eve’s symbol… John Baptist once had gardens on this site, where pomegranate trees grew, so it is a testament to the history of this site as well.” SJB’s Adam Haddow, 360 Degree’s Daniel Baffsky and Interior Architect George Livissianis led the hotel architecture and design.
SJB Senior Associate, Interior Design, Charlotte Wilson, also spoke of her experience working on the hotel, and the importance of creating a uniquely Australian look and feel. “From the get-go, we decided not to look too outwardly at international design; to look more inward at Australian design,” she said. “Australia has such an incredible identity, a rich identity, that you don’t really find anywhere else.” Wilson spoke about the design details that are dotted throughout the hotel, such as the glazed ceramic door handles at the entrance, a detail that carries through to the reception desks and the lobby basins, and to the door numbers of each room, and the robe hooks. Two of the hotel’s food and beverage venues, Bar Julius and rooftop restaurant Lottie, curated by experience-led hospitality group, Liquid and Larder, began operations in January.
