Marriott to open Le Méridien Lindeman Island Resort and Spa

Le Méridien Lindeman Island Resort and Spa will debut in Queensland’s Whitsundays in 2027, following a new deal inked between Marriott International and Singapore-based real estate company, Well Smart Group.

The property will open in September 2027 following a $60 million transformation of the former Club Med site, and will be managed by La Vie Hotels and Resorts, as announced last year.

“The resort will join our existing high-performing Queensland assets, located in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Port Douglas. Whilst the Whitsunday Islands has been a much-loved destination for Australian travellers since the 1980s, visitation from international markets has been inhibited by a limited offering of international branded resorts,” said Marriott International’s Vice President Hotel Development, Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific, Richard Crawford.

The move marks Marriott’s entry into the Whitsundays and La Vie’s inaugural collaboration with Marriott International as part of the triptide agreement. It will become the second Le Méridien-branded property joining Le Méridien Melbourne.

“This is a truly landmark moment – not just for Lindeman Island, but for La Vie Hotels & Resorts. Working with Marriott International to bring Le Méridien to the Whitsundays marks our first collaboration, we could not be more proud of what that means for this project,” said La Vie Hotels & Resorts CEO, Jerry Xu.

“The Marriott Bonvoy platform gives Lindeman Island immediate access to a global audience of hundreds of millions of loyal travellers, and Le Méridien’s creative, design-led identity is a natural match for the extraordinary natural beauty we are restoring here.

“This is the beginning of an exciting new stage for the project, and we look forward to building a strong and enduring relationship with Marriott International as we bring this iconic Australian destination back to life,” he said.

Le Méridien Lindeman Island Resort and Spa will occupy 70-hectare parcel of land with wide private beach frontage on Lindeman Island – one of 74 islands in Queensland’s Whitsunday Passage on the Great Barrier Reef – and is located only a 20-minute boat journey from Hamilton Island Airport.

“Securing Le Méridien as our hotel brand for Lindeman Island is a defining moment for this project. Le Méridien’s global reputation for design-led luxury and its celebration of culture and the good life is the perfect fit for what we are creating here in the Whitsundays,” said Well Smart Group Director, Jack Jia.

The renovated resort is expected to feature 200 guest rooms and 9 suites, two restaurants, lobby lounge and bar, function space, resort pool, fitness centre, Explore Spa by Le Méridien, tennis courts, Kids Club, and a recreational activities centre offering a multitude of water sports, along with an archery range and indoor golf facilities.
