Crowne Plaza to replace Adelaide Holiday Inn as demand for meetings and events soars

Plans for a 130-room Holiday Inn and Suites in Adelaide have been upgraded with the hotel now set to operate as a 155-room Crowne Plaza when it opens its doors in the second half of 2024.

IHG Hotels and Resorts, in partnership with Pelligra Group and One7, said the Mawson Lakes property – which was first announced during AHICE Asia Pacific in Adelaide in May 2022 – has undergone a transformation during development and is now positioned in the upscale segment.

The elevated property will feature three meeting spaces across 442 sqm, a fitness centre and a bar and restaurant.

IHG said the repositioning and rebrand reflects the higher quality of the build and higher-than-anticipated demand for corporate, leisure, meetings, conferences, and events in this location.

In addition to Crowne Plaza Mawson Lakes, Pelligra Group – which also owns Holiday Inn Werribee, Holiday Inn Dandenong, and Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport – is set to add two more IHG-branded hotels to its portfolio including the soon-to-open Crowne Plaza Carlton in 2024 and Holiday Inn Richmond.

“IHG and Pelligra Group share a remarkable partnership, operating three hotels together with three more in the pipeline,” said IHG’s Managing Director Australasia and Pacific, Matt Tripolone.

“We are delighted that Ross and the Pelligra team envision such a positive outlook for the premium travel segment in Australia, leading them to invest in elevating this asset to the premium sector. This move brings exceptional iterations of the Crowne Plaza brand to Adelaide.”

Pelligra Group Chairman, Ross Pelligra, said he is proud to see the partnership develop.

“We are already so proud to operate three amazing Holiday Inn hotels in Werribee, Dandenong and Melbourne Airport, with Crowne Plaza Carlton poised to open this year,” Pelligra said.

“Now we’re excited to be expanding our IHG brand portfolio to include our second Crowne Plaza in Adelaide.”

Bruno Muscatello, Director of property developer, One7, said, the hotel will elevate the local business and leisure landscape.

“We are immensely proud to announce the arrival of a globally renowned hotel brand to the vibrant Mawson Lakes precinct, Adelaide,” Muscatello said.

“This landmark addition not only signifies a momentous milestone for our company but is also a testament to our commitment to enhance the fabric of this thriving community.

“Creating a fusion of world-class hospitality with the dynamic energy of Mawson Lakes is set to produce a synergy that will not only elevate the local business and leisure landscape, but also contribute to the flourishing growth of this exceptional precinct.”
