London’s Dorchester Hotel gets its own rose

The launch of the flower coincides with the opening of the ‘Florist at The Dorchester’, a boutique selling signature and bespoke arrangements under the curation of the hotel’s in-house designer, florist Philip Hammond, who showcases this new variety of rose in spectacular displays.
Seven years in the making, the rose was created by Meijer Roses, a family company with a long tradition of creating the highest quality roses who selected The Dorchester to carry the name of this new variety.
To achieve the desired characteristics of the perfect bloom, the research and development team at Meijer tested various blends of their popular existing Avalanche varieties.
This specially selected rose is blousy in composition and has a pale blush colouring, with the pink tones developing as the rose opens.
“The Dorchester is renowned for its spectacular flower displays,” said Meijer Roses Managing Director, John Meijer. “Philip’s way of using of roses and other flowers is extraordinary. When we met Philip, we knew that a collaboration between The Dorchester and Meijer Roses would be a beautiful innovation.”
The Dorchester Rose will be showcased and celebrated in The Dorchester throughout the year, using on average 50,000 stems to create displays in the public areas, rooms and suites, and for the many private parties and weddings held at the hotel.
From the famously-splendid urns that grace The Promenade to the displays that guests find on their table for afternoon tea, the hotel is transformed with displays of The Dorchester Rose.
“The colour is perfect to complement the interior tones of The Dorchester,” Hammond said. “The open shape of the flower makes it unique. Each stem is perfect.”
On January 20, Philip and his team opened ‘Florist at The Dorchester’, a boutique and floristry workshop at the entrance to The Promenade where guests will be able to buy The Dorchester Rose Signature Bouquet as well other pre-made and bespoke bouquet arrangements.
The Dorchester Rose Signature Bouquet is priced from £65 and the concept store is open daily from 10:00am-6:00pm.
