Construction for Courtyard by Marriott Dili is set to commence in 2027, with an earmarked opening in early 2029.
“We’re excited to be working with Jape Group to bring the Courtyard by Marriott brand to Dili and secure an inaugural foothold in a new market,” said Marriott International’s Vice President of Hotel Development Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, Richard Crawford said.
“Timor-Leste is one of the youngest countries in Asia, and one of Australia’s closest neighbours, so today’s signing is an important strategic advancement for Marriott International, and for Timor-Leste.”
“With Timor-Leste set to host the ASEAN Summit in 2029, significant investment in Dili’s infrastructure, including a new International Convention Centre and plans for airport upgrade is supporting the city’s growth, we anticipate Courtyard by Marriott Dili to respond to demand by bringing a contemporary, internationally recognised hospitality brand offering to the market.
“Jape Group has a proven track record of delivering market-leading mixed-use developments, and Courtyard by Marriott’s global reputation signals a powerful collaboration that will have far-reaching benefits for Timor-Leste,” Crawdford said.

The new-build Courtyard by Marriott Dili is expected to attract both corporate and leisure travellers, andi will form part of Jape Group’s existing Timor Plaza Dili Central, which is Dili’s main commercial, retail and entertainment hub.
The 100-key hotel is expected to offer a combination of hotel rooms and one-bedroom suites, catering to longer stays. Development plans include an all-day dining restaurant, cafe and bar, with meetings and event spaces spanning 450 square metres. The hotel will also feature a dedicated fitness centre, swimming pool and pool bar.
“This agreement marks a significant milestone for both Jape Group and Timor-Leste,” said Jape Group, Executive Chairman, Alan Jape.
“For more than two decades, we have believed in the future of this country and have continued to invest in developments that contribute to its economic growth, employment opportunities, and international profile.
“Bringing the Courtyard by Marriott brand to Dili is a strong endorsement of Timor-Leste’s potential and boost business confidence in the country’s future.”
“As part of Timor Plaza Dili Central, this development will strengthen Dili’s position as a destination for business, tourism, and regional engagement, while creating new opportunities for the community through training, career development, and hospitality excellence.
“We are proud to work with Marriott International on a project that we are confident will leave a lasting positive legacy for Timor-Leste.”
