Historic Harbour Rocks Hotel reopens in Sydney after stylish makeover

A historic hotel in Sydney’s The Rocks has reopened its doors following a major renovation to its suites and dining establishments.

Harbour Rocks Hotel has unveiled a complete transformation of its heritage-listed building, emerging as a boutique hotel at the heart of The Rocks, Sydney’s oldest precinct.

Set among The Rocks’ cobbled lanes and moments from Sydney Harbour foreshore, the 59-room hotel has been reimagined with heritage details fusing with contemporary comfort.

Original brick and stonework sit alongside new furnishings, lighting and modern features.

Built in 1887 as Evans’ Stores, the hotel’s sandstone warehouse was home to Joplin Manufacturing Company for 70 years, among other iterations, before opening as a hotel in 1989.

“What excites me most about this next chapter is we’ve been able to rethink the entire guest experience, while keeping the intimacy and personality that has always made Harbour Rocks special,” said Harbour Rocks Hotel General Manager, Jeanfrancois Savaroc.

“Harbour Rocks isn’t about experiencing Sydney from a hotel room; it’s about feeling part of the neighbourhood while you’re here and leaving with a few stories you didn’t expect.”

At the heart of the hotel is Eric’s Bar, while the hotel’s signature dining restaurant, Tayim, is led by head chef Youssef Anid, and the Garden Terrace offers a more intimate setting and is reserved for private events.

“Harbour Rocks has always had an extraordinary connection to The Rocks so our intention was never to erase its history but [rather] give this building its next chapter – a feeling of new heritage,” Ode Hotels Group General Manager, Joel Gordon said.

“We want Harbour Rocks to be somewhere visitors feel immediately connected to the neighbourhood, but equally, somewhere locals choose to drink, dine and spend time.”
