Wayfarer exclusive: inside the remodelled W Hollywood in Los Angeles, California

by James Wilkinson

W Hollywood has long been one of the brand’s most popular hotels in the United States and now, thanks to a major makeover, it’s never been more luxurious or stylish than now. To find out more about the upgrade and much more, Wayfarer’s James Wilkinson spoke to W Hollywood General Manager, Nick Rimedio.

Nick, the W Hollywood is popular on so many levels, from the location to the design, rooms and food and beverage on offer. Tell us about your favourite things of the property.

W Hollywood is passionately dedicated to creating an exceptional guest experience rooted in a dynamic lens of luxury and lifestyle.

This commitment is reflected not only through the hospitality of our team but also through thoughtfully integrated, boundary-pushing technology, and the hotel’s unique ability to create so many different guest experiences throughout the property. We have, literally, several stages to create memories.

One of the property’s standout technology features is Tempo AI, which is essentially a music platform. I like to think of it as a digital jukebox that personalizes the soundtrack of each stay.

It’s an app that lives on your phone and provides guest connectivity to W Hollywood’s music library, allowing them to make requests for music in our public spaces based on their own musical preferences, which are matched to our approved playlists.

Even better, Tempo AI then saves the music as a playlist to your account on Spotify, and it is a one-of-a-kind souvenir for travelers to take home and capture their stay in the form of a sonic identity. Slippers and robes can be cool keepsakes, but I’d rather have the music of an incredible moment to share with my friends at home sipping rose on my patio.

Another defining aspect of W Hollywood is how deeply wellness is integrated into the property.

Despite being located in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Hollywood, the hotel offers a hidden wellness sanctuary featuring two state-of-the-art gyms.

We host a number of incredible events every week, but everyone loves our W Legends series, which lets locals and guests break a sweat with live workouts led by a curated collective of elite celebrity trainers, like former DOGPOUND trainers and Division 1 athletes.

Given the modern-day traveler prioritizes health and wellness, even while away from home, W Hollywood makes it easy to maintain those routines and explore new wellness program, all while showing up for yourself and without compromising the excitement of travel.

Nick, tell us about the makeover that has given W Hollywood a wonderful refresh.

The work achieved during our renovation in 2023-2024 was more than a makeover, it was a total evolution.

Fall 2024 truly marked a new era for W Hollywood, the next album in our discography, if you will.

The hotel features 319 guest rooms and suites that were not only completely reimagined in the renovation but creatively redirected to evoke that same sense of collaboration, glamour and entertainment that characterizes all other spaces at W Hollywood.

As the West Coast Global Flagship for W Hotels, that evolution is ultimately a fresh chapter, and it coincides with the new direction in the brand story, largely evolving its identity away from the Hollywood party scene and into an elevated playground for creatives in Los Angeles.

It is an environment that inspires creativity and is an extension of the beating heart of our city.

The redesign was led by the Rockwell Group and is a reflection of Southern California’s natural landscape and LA’s cinematic legacy. Ultimately, I see the renovation as a love letter to Los Angeles and a celebration of the spirit and enduring influence of the city on a global scale.

It honours the character of the place we’ve been lucky enough to call home while inviting guests to see the city through a fresh and elevated perspective.

Tell us about the fantastic food and beverage on offer, which is some of the best in Hollywood.

W Hollywood’s beverage and food program transcends the typical dining experience and curates an immersive social occasion that thrives at the intersection of taste, music, and style.

The ambiance of dining at The Living Room is reminiscent of a dinner party at a house in the hills, refined yet approachable.

In line with W Hollywood’s commitment to showcasing the very best of Los Angeles – one of the most diverse food cities in the world – the hotel’s culinary program is is inspired by the city’s diversity and the idea of wanderlust.

The menu celebrates a blend of Asian cuisine based on the idea of, if we had two months to take an adventure through Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Saigon, and Bangkok, what would we be eating?

We also recently debuted a cocktail program: Martini Moments, The Tequila Edit, and Wake and Shake, which translate the incredible craft cocktails and performance beverages designed to expand the notions of a tequila menu, a classic martini menu, and an innovation espresso martini menu.

What’s your X-factor at W Hollywood?

Hands down, the experiences we provide for our guests and locals. No other hotel in Los Angeles can boast the breadth and diversity of events that we create to bring together our hotels guests and neighbours alike.

With the incredible partnerships already mentioned like Tempo and W Legends, we also have great relationships with Insomniac, Beatport, Alchemize House, and Technoygym to name a few, which all enrich the guest experience and add a valuable asset to our community.

How important is loyalty, particularly given the global popularity of Bonvoy?

Loyalty is everything in today’s market, and not just in hospitality. We see it everywhere, and no one does it better than Bonvoy with over 10,000 hotels for guests to choose from anywhere in the world where they want to travel.

For us at W Hollywood, this is an amazing feature as guests can find us and book with a click of their finger, and then we take care of the rest when they walk through the doors.

Nick what are some of your favourite things to do in the local area?

This can change day to day as we have so many world class experiences and local gems within easy reach of the hotel.

Want to see a Broadway musical? Pantages is steps from our door, just across the street.

Does your LA bucket list include a taste of movie magic? A legendary amusement park with actual film production – Universal Studios – is just a three-mile drive (or three-stop Metro ride) away.

Are you passionate about live music? You can see incredible live concerts, from the Palladium to the Hollywood Bowl, just minutes from the hotel.

Traveling with kids? Wow them and relive your childhood at Funko Hollywood – it’s a block away and you have to see it to believe it. Vinyl lovers will be shocked by the sheer volume of record, hard-to-find band tees, and posters at Amoeba Music, a music mecca that’s just a crosswalk away.

When it comes to dining and drinks, the options are endless, from Evan Funke’s Mother Wolf, the Aster, smash burger hit For the Win, Jemma, Superba, and of course, the Well, all in walking distance in our backyard! .
