Travel boost: Fiji Airways to add seventh Australian destination

Fiji Airways has announced a major expansion of its Australian network with the launch of new direct flights between The Gold Coast and Nadi, Fiji.

The new services will launch on June 11, 2026 and will operate three times a week on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays with the modern Boeing 737 MAX 8.

Fiji Airways Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Paul Scurrah, said the new service provides the Gold Coast community with a faster, more convenient connection to Fiji, while offering Fijians a quicker route to the Gold Coast.

He said the new service, operating in just over three hours, will bring an additional 53,000 seats into the market every year, creating greater connectivity and more opportunities for travellers.

Scurrah said the new Gold Coast – Nadi route highlights the airline’s ongoing commitment to serving the Australian market.

“The Gold Coast is a natural fit for Fiji Airways,” he said. “It is a thriving hub for tourism, business, and major global events, and its population and infrastructure growth make it an increasingly important part of Australia’s future.

“This new direct service strengthens ties between Fiji and Australia, unlocking significant opportunities for both outbound and inbound travel.”

“We are delighted to offer travellers on the Gold Coast a faster, direct link to Fiji for holidays, family visits and business, while also providing Fijians and international travellers with easier access to the Gold Coast region.

“As we pursue our vision to become the world’s happiest airline, we’re excited to bring that spirit to the Gold Coast – pairing our award-winning service with the genuine warmth and care that Fiji is known for.”

Queensland Tourism Minister Andrew Powell said the State Government was proud to support the new route through Destination 2045’s Connecting Queensland Fund.

“We promised more strategic flights connecting Queensland to the world, and we are delivering,” Minister Powell said.

“The Fiji-Gold Coast route opens new pathways through the USA and Canada via Nadi, bringing tens of thousands of travellers right to our doorstep.

“That $51 million boost to our economy will go straight to our local cafes, hotels and experience operators who make our state the true home of the holiday, all while supporting more than 100 direct jobs.”

Gold Coast becomes Fiji Airways’ seventh Australian destination and the fourth destination where competing options previously required a one-stop journey, giving the airline a strong competitive advantage in meeting the region’s accelerating travel demand.
