Moreton Bay to welcome first five-star hotel

Moreton Bay is soon set to welcome its first 5-star hotel with a $4 million transformation of Mercure Clear Mountain following its recent acquisition by Mandala Hotels and Resorts.

The 51-room hinterland escape, set atop 20 hectares of pristine bushland, will be repositioned and rebranded as a luxury Peppers retreat. “Our vision is to reimagine Clear Mountain as a premier wedding and tourism destination – one that blends timeless charm with refined hospitality,” said Mandala’s Principal Ryan Shaw “We’re proud to bring Peppers’ signature experience to this extraordinary location.” The upgraded property will include elevated guest suites with panoramic mountain views, purpose-built wedding and corporate event venues, s signature restaurant and bar anchored by a central fireplace, Resort-style pool, gym and enhanced wellness spa, Billard room, several private dining experiences, as well as integrated landscaping and design that celebrates the natural surrounds Hospitality design firm Dezign has been enlisted to deliver the project through their integrated design and construction methodology.
“This is more than a refurbishment, it’s a complete repositioning of the guest experience,” said Dezign Head of Client Relations, Charlie Pridham. Sharing a insight into the new look, Dezign’s Head of Design, Mike Watson, said “the new restaurant and bar will feature rich timber tones, sculptural lighting, and soft banquettes, creating a destination for both guests and locals”. The renovation will be completed in stages with the property remaining operational. The landmark redevelopment aligns with regional growth targets ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics, with Moreton Bay projected to require 1,500 new hotel rooms by 2032. “This upgrade will elevate our city’s profile nationally and internationally, supporting local businesses and attracting new leisure and corporate visitors,” said Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery “Given our proximity to Brisbane’s CBD and airport, this 5-star retreat will help meet growing accommodation demand and unlock new opportunities for tourism operators and hospitality venues.” With a portfolio spanning 30+ locations and over 2,000 keys, Mandala’s asset base now exceeds $250 million.
