The StandardX, Melbourne has opened its seventh-floor rooftop bar, The Roof, offering panoramic views of Fitzroy and the CBD skyline.

The 125-room hotel, which opened in August, is the first Australian property under the Standard International brand and marks the global debut of the StandardX. Designed by Melbourne-based interior design firm, Hecker Guthrie, The Roof aims to deliver a chic, laidback atmosphere, where patrons can enjoy Mexican fare under colourful umbrellas. “The idea of The Roof was to create a green oasis for guests to casually mingle and indulge in Mexican inspired snacks and drinks, while being submerged into the Fitzroy culture from above,” said Standard International’s Chief Design Officer, Verena Haller. The Mexican menu, inspired by the flavours of Mexico City’s famed Mercado Medellin, has been curated by Executive Chef Justin Dingle-Garciyya of The StandardX’s all-day dining restaurant, Bang. Alongside an evolving margarita menu, the bar serves up natural wines from small-scale growers around Victoria and artisanal spirits.
