Winter Wonderland: high hopes for school holidays as Queenstown ski slopes blanketed in snow

Queenstown is celebrating the arrival of a fresh blanket of snow on its popular ski mountains, which is expected to lure plenty of skiing enthusiasts.

All four of the region’s ski areas – Cardona Alpine Resort, The Remarkables, Coronet Peak and Treble Cone – are now open, thanks to the favourable weather conditions.

The Southern Lakes ski areas reported as much as 50cm in 48 hours; The Remarkables has recorded 70cm of snow already this season, while Cardrona Alpine Resort has welcomed a 63cm base.

“Queenstown continues to be one of the most popular ski destinations in the world with its variety of ski areas to suit every level, combined with the region’s renowned après ski scene,” said Destination Queenstown Chief Executive Officer, Mat Woods.

“The season’s snow dump has set up brilliant conditions with all mountains now open, ready to welcome Australian visitors in what’s set to be a stellar ski season.”

Recognised as the Southern Hemisphere’s premiere four-season destination, Queenstown draws all levels of skier during the winter months.

The region’s world-class facilities offer beginner, intermediate and advanced runs, catering to a wide range of visitors.
