Wayfarer TV: IHG CEO Keith Barr on new brands, global growth and more

by James Wilkinson

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) continues to tick all of the boxes for business and leisure travellers under the helm of CEO Keith Barr, who has been in charge of the company since July 2017.

Over the last 12 months alone, the Barr has launched two new brands (Avid and Voco) and acquired two luxury brands in Regent and Six Senses. There has also been significant growth on the lifestyle and boutique front with Kimpton making its European debut and soon, its first foray into Asia-Pacific.

For Barr, it is about strengthening the company’s existing brands, launching new brands (another is coming later in 2019), acquiring companies and growing with the right partners that will bolster the IHG business in the best segments across the world.

This comes alongside a strong play in the loyalty space with IHG Rewards Club, which continues to be a strong benefit for both business and leisure travellers.

To find out about the recent growth and what’s coming next, Wayfarer Host and Editor-In-Chief, James Wilkinson, spoke to Barr in Europe on video recently (exclusively screened first at the AHICE hotel conference in Melbourne).
