When it comes to the top boutique establishments in Texas, one of the brightest stars is Austin’s South Congress Hotel.

The 83-room hotel, which debuted in September 2015, has been one of the city’s best properties thanks not just to its location in the heart of a thriving neighbourhood, but for its hardwood floor and custom designed furniture-laden rooms that also boast mini bars stocked with local produce, large walk-in showers and balconies overlooking downtown Austin.

There’s also a rooftop pool, lobby bar that makes a brilliant Bobby Burns, Café No Sé for morning delights and Central Standard for grilled Amish chicken and whiskey cake.

In Episode 15 of Series 02 of Wayfarer, award-winning host James Gregory Wilkinson is in Austin, Texas and he looks at some of the best things to see and do in the capital of the Lone Star State, including booking a room at the South Congress Hotel.

In the episode, Wilkinson heads to the South Congress Hotel and talks accommodation with owner Bart Knaggs.

He then then visits legendary Texas meat joint La Barbecue to talk brisket and much more with owners LeAnn Mueller – who hails from food royalty in this state; she’s the granddaughter of the founder of the famous Louie Mueller Barbecue – and her partner Alison Clem, known as one of the finest culinary masters in Austin.
