Wayfarer TV: British Airways on track to resume Sydney flights from the end of March

British Airways’ first passenger flight between Sydney and London since April 2020 is set to take to the skies on March 29, 2022 on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

Following the news that Australia is reopening its borders to fully vaccinated international travellers, the resumption of the route will enable people in the UK and Australia to reunite with loved ones following a long period of separation caused by Covid-19.

Flight BA15, which will operate via Singapore, is scheduled to touch in Sydney on 29 March at 6.10am and returning flight BA16 is to depart at 3.50pm.

These will be the first British Airways flights to the south-west Pacific since customers in the region became eligible to join the airline’s Executive Club loyalty scheme in August 2021.

“We can’t wait to welcome our customers back on board our Sydney to London flights and we will be honoured to play our part in reuniting families and friends with their loved ones after such a long time apart,” said British Airways’ Head of Sales, Asia Pacific, Noella Ferns.

“The safety of our customers and colleagues has always been at the heart of everything we do.

“We know some customers won’t have flown for a long time, and we can assure them we have a range of Covid-19 measures in place to provide stress and hassle-free travel.

“Since we last flew this route, customers in Australia and the wider region can now join the Executive Club and with the resumption of flights can finally start to access some of the amazing benefits on offer,” she said.

Ferns said customers booking with British Airways can do so with absolute confidence, thanks to the airline’s flexible booking policy, and are able to exchange their booking for a voucher or move their dates without incurring a change fee.

She said British Airways’ online Covid hub includes information on flexible bookings, testing, how to use a voucher and what the British Airways flying experience looks like for those that haven’t travelled for some time.

Ferns said British Airways has introduced a number of measures at the airport and on board to look after the safety and wellbeing of its customers and colleagues.

She said Prior to travel, customers will also receive details of how they can prepare for their journey, including information on discounted testing providers.

Ferns said British Airways cleans all key surfaces including seats, screens, seat buckles and tray tables after every flight and each aircraft is completely cleaned from nose to tail every day.

The air on all flights is fully recycled once every two to three minutes through HEPA filters, which remove microscopic bacteria and virus clusters with over 99.9% efficiency, equivalent to hospital operating theatre standards.

The airline has also partnered with Dettol to offer a range of products to keep its customers and colleagues safe in the air and on the ground.

To help customers navigate the changing entry requirement and facilitate a seamless journey, customers can choose to download the VeriFLY app before departing to London.

The digital health app allows customers to combine their travel verification documents and Covid-19 test results in one place and confirming their eligibility with a few simple steps.
