Thredbo kicks off winter season as snow dumps

by James Wilkinson

Thredbo Resort has opened for skiing and snowboarding this week (20 June), following fantastic snowfalls and ideal snowmaking conditions.

Thredbo Brand and Marketing Manager, Richie Carroll, said there has been tremendous excitement in the village this week.

“The entire Thredbo team has been working day and night to get the mountain ready and now that mother nature is playing ball, it’s go time,” he said.

“The forecast just keeps getting better so we’re very excited for a massive winter season ahead.”

He said blizzard conditions last Sunday and Monday brought fresh snow all the way down to the village, and mother nature isn’t showing any signs of slowing down yet.

Carroll said Subzero temperatures on Sunday night created ideal snowmaking conditions, allowing 147 snow guns to fire from 4pm through to 6am on Monday morning.

On Tuesday, the Cruiser and Gunbarrel Chairlifts opened to skiers and snowboarders, providing access to Walkabout in the Cruiser Area.

Experts are forecasting freezing temperatures and another 40cm of snow over the next week.
