The property’s casino operations resumed this month, with the hotel to follow in March 2026. The restoration “rebuilt for resilience” is one of the most significant projects the hotel has embarked on, collaborating with designers, Kas Makohon, Lukas Design, Vancorp, and expert structural teams from Vanuatu and New Zealand.
“The Grand has always been part of Port Vila’s heart. This renewal is about more than buildings. It’s about confidence, continuity, and rekindling the magic that makes this place unforgettable. With its structural soul restored, The Grand is now ready to unveil its next chapter, a sanctuary of elegance, indulgence, and connection,” Grand Hotel & Casino Vanuatu, Managing Director, Bettina Mahieu said.
Perched on the edge of the Port Vila harbour, once reopened all seventy-four rooms and suites will offer uninterrupted harbour views with generous balconies as well as European marble ensuites, floor-to-ceiling windows and high-speed internet. Re-imagined conference and events spaces are also part of the renewal with five modular event spaces to be unveiled.
“The Grand has a special place in the Port Vila community and is more than stone and steel. “It’s love embedded in structure,” Director of Zagame Corporation, the resort operators, Robert A Zagame said.
“We want to ensure The Grand doesn’t just return. It rises stronger, more beautiful, more alive. This isn’t a comeback, It’s a renewal, and it’s only the beginning.”
The hotel remains closed while final works continue and is on track for a March 2026 reopening.
