The group signed an agreement with Shanghai SIIC North Bund New Landmark Construction and Development Co., Ltd. to introduce the world’s first urban Reserve concept for Ritz-Carlton, with the 110-room hotel slated to open in 2030.
According to the group, the urban Reserve concept is a “highly selective extension of the brand”, with the Shanghai property to bring the “rarity, personalisation, and sense of wellbeing” that define the Reserve experience to one of the world’s most dynamic cities.
“Ritz-Carlton Reserve has always been about creating rare, deeply personal experiences that could only exist in their destination,” Marriott International President of Luxury, Tina Edmundson said.

“There is an intimacy to Reserve – an extraordinary level of personalisation, a deep connection to local culture, and a sense of discovery and wellbeing that allows guests to experience a place in an entirely different way. Bringing that philosophy to Shanghai for our first urban Reserve is an incredibly exciting evolution for the brand. Shanghai is a city unlike any other, where extraordinary heritage and culture exist alongside incredible creativity, energy and global influence. We see a remarkable opportunity to create a true sanctuary within that energy – one that feels unmistakably of Shanghai, while offering the highly bespoke, transformative experiences that make Reserve so special.”
Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Shanghai will be part of the city’s significant waterfront developments, with many of the guest rooms and suites overlooking the Bund and Huangpu River. The hotel will offer a specialty restaurant, Chinese dining experiences, a lobby lounge, and a bespoke bar, as well as an indoor swimming pool, fitness center, and a spa & wellness retreat.
The ultra-luxury hospitality component serves as part of a landmark mixed-use development featuring retail and office spaces, residences and an observatory deck.

When completed, the hotel is expected to make Shanghai the only city worldwide where all eight of Marriott International’s luxury brands are represented.
“As North Bund continues to evolve into one of Shanghai’s most important waterfront districts, our vision is to create a landmark destination that contributes to the city’s emergence as a leading global center for culture, commerce, and tourism,” SIIC Group Vice President and Chairman of Shanghai SIIC North Bund Landmark Construction and Development Co., Ltd. Huang Haiping said.
The milestone was marked at a signing ceremony attended by executives from both companies.
