Mantra 2 Bond Street brings New York-style wine bar to Sydney’s CBD

A New York-inspired wine bar has opened its doors at Mantra 2 Bond Street in Sydney, bringing a relaxed neighbourhood feel to the CBD setting.

Positioned in an enviable location on the corner of George Street and Bond Street, Georgie Wine Bar features a classic art deco design that pays homage to the heritage of the CBD with its own contemporary twist.

The new 60-seater fit out features moody colours, luxurious textures such as marble, velvet, and accents of gold and retro black and white tiles.

Operating as a street-side coffee window in the mornings, the venue evolves throughout the day, serving up a ‘down-to-earth’, produce-driven menu for lunch and dinner.

“Our menu oozes personality and character, welcoming people in from the bustling streets,” said Parisian-born chef Head Chef Gil Ghidalia – formerly of Shell House and Aria.

“We are offering commuters and local corporates an immersive all-day experience to entice them to stay and play in the CBD.”

Ghidalia also plans for a mystery snack, such as a ‘Reuben eclair’ or a ‘Rockefeller toasty’, to be available in evenings from the street-side window for those on their way home.

General Manager Susie Shelley said the evolving wine list features old and new world wines, centred on stalwart winemakers.

“We didn’t want Georgie to be constrained by a particular theme, instead we are pouring wine that we are loving at that moment,” she said.

“A healthy sized Coravin pour selection features some of our more treasured favourites that we manage to get our hands on.”
