Kids’ delight: the travel friendly Carry-Play

Kingdom Playroom has launched the Carry-Play, a revolutionary table for ages 0 to 6 that folds into a hand-carry suitcase smaller than standard cabin baggage.

Designed by JN Jenny Chen, a Sydney mum of three kids under six, the travel-friendly Carry-Play has a patent registered thanks to its unique folding and multifunctional design.

“While in lockdown and having to homeschool, I was looking for a table that can be used for both my toddler and kindergartener, the most popular choice seemed to be kids table from a major furniture chain,” said Chen.

“But it is heavy, very basic, and I wasn’t confident timber will be easy to clean and maintain. Every other table I looked at was too one-dimensional in its use and I needed something that was versatile and space-saving.”

With a professional background in graphics design and working knowledge of product design, Jenny created the Carry-Play for creative experiences anytime, anywhere.

It is 100% waterproof with easy wipe surfaces, it features two large storage compartments for toys, supplies, or sensory play, as well as four clip-on side holders for extra storage and organisation, and detachable legs with two height settings.

She said the design process started with inspiration from a hard case carry-on suitcase.

“It was the perfect size for storing away in the cupboard or under the bed and opens up with enough space inside for play and storage,” she said.

Chen said working closely with mechanical engineers and CAD artists, conceptual sketches were developed with hidden handles, hinges and reversible table tops.

“These custom design features increase the Carry-Play’s compatibility with the most common early years play activities and improve on its visual aesthetics and user-friendliness,” she said.

Partnering with a local manufacturer in NSW, technical drawings for the Carry-Play were refined and prototyping was undertaken to optimise usability and durability.

“With the Australian active lifestyle in mind, the Carry-Play instantly turns any beach outing, camping trip, or backyard into an outdoor classroom experience with its lightweight, compact and weatherproof design,” she said. “It can be used as a portable mud kitchen, elevated sand pit, or for sensory activities. For easy cleanups, simply hose or wipe it down.

“With handcrafted Nordic-style illustrations on its table tops, the Carry-Play is beautifully designed to complement any environment.

“It provides an elevated surface for activities to keep the mess off the ground and maximise the use of play space by increasing vertical space,” she said.

The reverse side of the table tops are building block base plates for even more play options within a limited area, particularly in apartment living and smaller learning environments where space is limited.
