Exclusive: inside the boutique and luxurious Casa Angelina on Italy’s Amalfi Coast

by James Wilkinson

Perched above the sea in the ancient fishing village of Praiano, Casa Angelina continues to redefine the Amalfi Coast experience through its distinctive blend of contemporary elegance, heartfelt hospitality, and meaningful connections to place.

A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, the 36-room retreat is not simply a hotel but a contemporary home overlooking one of the world’s most celebrated coastlines.

Surrounded by lemon groves, dramatic cliffs and endless blue horizons, Casa Angelina offers guests a serene sanctuary where the timeless pleasures of southern Italy are reimagined through a lens of quiet luxury.

To find out what makes the property one of Italy’s best hotels, Wayfarer’s JAMES WILKINSON caught up with Casa Angelina General Manager, DOMENICO DE SIMONE.

Casa Angelina is popular on so many levels, from the location to the views, design, rooms and food and beverage on offer. Tell us about your favourite things of the property.

What I love most about Casa Angelina is that it goes beyond the traditional concept of a five-star luxury hotel. Of course, guests are drawn by the spectacular location, the design, the views, and the culinary experiences, but what truly sets Casa Angelina apart is how it makes people feel.

From the moment guests arrive, there is a genuine sense of being completely taken care of. Every detail is thoughtfully considered so that they can let go, slow down and simply be present.

In a destination as vibrant and bustling as the Amalfi Coast, Casa Angelina offers something increasingly rare: the opportunity to disconnect from the noise and reconnect with oneself.

We often say that we don’t simply provide accommodation; we create the conditions for an intentional stay.

Whether that means finding a moment of stillness overlooking the sea, enjoying a meaningful culinary experience, or simply allowing our team to anticipate every need, guests leave feeling restored both mentally and physically.

The hotel itself feels more like a contemporary home than a traditional hotel. There is an atmosphere of understated elegance and quiet luxury that allows the beauty of the Amalfi Coast to take centre stage. For me, seeing guests arrive exhausted and leave feeling renewed is perhaps the most rewarding aspect of what we do.

Tell us about the stylish rooms and suites on offer.

Our accommodations are a natural extension of Casa Angelina’s signature style: elegant, contemporary and deeply connected to the surrounding landscape.

What makes them truly special is that every room and suite enjoys sweeping views of the Mediterranean and its own private outdoor space, whether a balcony or terrace, allowing guests to experience the Amalfi Coast from the comfort and privacy of their own sanctuary.

Over the years, we have intentionally evolved our accommodation offering. Recently, we reduced the number of keys from 44 to 36, creating larger and even more spacious accommodations while significantly enhancing our suite collection.

Among our most distinctive offerings are the Azure Suite, Vermarine Suite and Angelina Suite, each designed to provide a residential-style experience with generous indoor and outdoor living spaces, exceptional privacy, and breathtaking sea views.

Design remains at the heart of Casa Angelina, and we are particularly proud of our collaboration with renowned Italian designer Paola Lenti, whose iconic furnishings feature in some of our most exclusive suites.

While Casa Angelina is celebrated for its signature white-on-white aesthetic, Paola Lenti’s creations have introduced subtle hues inspired by the surrounding landscape — delicate shades of sea blue, pale green and soft natural tones that gently blend into the overall design.

The result is an elegant evolution of the hotel’s visual identity, maintaining its sense of serenity while creating a deeper dialogue with the colours of the Amalfi Coast.

Her distinctive aesthetic brings warmth, texture and effortless sophistication to the spaces, enhancing the feeling of staying in a beautifully curated contemporary home.

Beyond the design, we place tremendous importance on comfort and the quality of every detail. Rather than sourcing from traditional hotel suppliers, we partner with brands more commonly found in exceptional private residences.

Guests sleep on Simmons Beautyrest mattresses that can be tailored to their preferred firmness, from soft to medium or firm, ensuring a personalised sleeping experience.

Beds are dressed with luxurious Beltrami linens, while guests can select from a curated collection of premium bath amenities, including Jo Malone London, Diptyque, Aesop and L’Occitane, according to their personal preferences.

It is often the small touches that guests remember most fondly: the pillow menu, the nightly turndown ritual with chamomile pillow mist and hand cream, the gourmet surprise left by our culinary team, the carefully prepared terrace complete with cashmere wraps for cooler evenings, and the binoculars waiting to help guests take in the extraordinary scenery.

Every element has been thoughtfully curated to make guests feel not as though they are staying in a hotel room, but in a beautiful contemporary home on the Amalfi Coast.

Tell us about the fantastic food and beverage on offer, which is some of the best in the region.

Food and beverage is one of the pillars of the Casa Angelina experience and reflects our broader philosophy of hospitality: authentic, thoughtful, highly personalised and deeply connected to our surroundings.

Breakfast is one of our true highlights and, in 2025, Casa Angelina was recognised with a Best Hotel Breakfast award. It is a moment our guests genuinely look forward to — so much so that even while on holiday, many choose to wake early simply to enjoy the morning light and the spellbinding views from the restaurant terrace.

What makes breakfast special is the combination of abundance, quality and personalisation. We have a nighttime baker who prepares fresh breads and pastries while the hotel sleeps, and our Night Food and Beverage Butler can arrange a bespoke breakfast for guests with early departures, even before sunrise.

The experience combines an impressive buffet with beautifully served à la carte dishes, offering almost anything a guest could dream of, from indulgent holiday favourites to lighter, balanced options. Our Chef also works with a nutritionist to ensure the offer is generous, enjoyable and thoughtfully balanced.

Across all our dining venues, quality begins with the ingredients. Much of our produce comes directly from our organic cliffside garden overlooking the Mediterranean, while seafood is sourced from trusted local fishermen, including those here in Praiano.

We are fortunate to be surrounded by extraordinary producers, and our role is to respect and showcase their work through a cuisine that celebrates the richness of Campania and the Amalfi Coast.

At Seascape, our all-day dining restaurant, featuring an open space kitchen, guests enjoy a relaxed yet refined culinary experience centred around traditional Neapolitan flavours, fresh seafood and seasonal ingredients, all accompanied by uninterrupted sea views.

At our Michelin-starred restaurant, Un Piano Nel Cielo, only open for dinner, Chef Leopoldo Elefante presents a contemporary interpretation of the territory that is elegant, expressive and deeply rooted in seasonality.

What makes the experience particularly distinctive is that it is never rigid or overly formal. The menu evolves continuously with the rhythms of our garden and the sea, offering guests the freedom to create a personalised gastronomic journey through both tasting menus and a generous à la carte selection. The cuisine is refined yet approachable, allowing the purity of exceptional ingredients to remain at the forefront.

Complementing the culinary experience is one of the most extensive wine cellars on the Amalfi Coast, featuring over 1,500 labels with a particular focus on remarkable producers from Campania, further reinforcing our commitment to celebrating the character and culture of our region.

What’s your x-factor at Casa Angelina?

I believe our true x-factor is the relentless quest for perfection that shapes everything we do. Not perfection in a formal or intimidating sense, but in the genuine care, attention and thoughtfulness that our team brings to every guest experience.

Behind Casa Angelina is a remarkable team of approximately 120 young hospitality professionals who share a common passion: anticipating needs before they are expressed and creating moments that feel effortless, natural and deeply personal. Luxury today is not about excess; it is about feeling understood, cared for and completely at ease.

From the moment guests arrive, there is a sense that everything has been thoughtfully prepared for them. It is this anticipatory approach, combined with sincere warmth and dedication, that transforms a stay into something memorable.

The other element that guests often speak about is the feeling of being suspended between sea and sky, removed from the pace of everyday life.

Many describe Casa Angelina as feeling almost heavenly — a place where they can disconnect from external pressures and reconnect with themselves. Surrounded by extraordinary beauty, cared for by a passionate team and free from the demands of daily life, they experience what we believe is the ultimate luxury: the freedom to simply be.

For us, that feeling of being on cloud nine, where every detail is taken care of and every moment can be fully enjoyed, is what defines Casa Angelina.

What are some of your favourite things to do in the local area?

The Amalfi Coast is one of the most photographed destinations in the world, but I always encourage guests to look beyond the postcard and discover its authentic soul. Some of the most memorable experiences are often the simplest ones — the moments that connect you with the people, traditions and landscapes that make this place so special.

Praiano, in particular, remains one of the Coast’s hidden gems. While many visitors focus exclusively on Positano or Capri, Praiano has preserved a more genuine rhythm of life and offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the Amalfi Coast as locals do.

If I had to recommend one experience, it would undoubtedly be exploring the coastline aboard our Lady Angelina Gozzo 35 by Apreamare.

The Amalfi Coast reveals itself differently from the sea. There are hidden coves, ancient fishing villages, dramatic cliffs and perspectives that can only be discovered from the water. It is an experience that allows guests to understand what the Coast whispers to those willing to slow down and observe.

Equally important is dedicating time to what we like to call a modern interpretation of La Dolce Vita. In Praiano, guests can discover local traditions such as the historic Totani fishing experience, learn the art of bobbin lace-making from local artisans, or simply wander through the village’s quiet pathways and staircases overlooking the sea.

One experience that is particularly close to our hearts is a visit to our organic cliffside garden with our Garden Curator, Giusy, and Chef Leopoldo Elefante.

Guests are invited to walk through the terraces overlooking the Mediterranean, pick tomatoes, herbs and seasonal vegetables with their own hands, with our knowledgeable Farmer, Basile, and gain a deeper understanding of the ingredients that define our cuisine. It is a beautiful way to reconnect with nature, appreciate the rhythms of the seasons and take home a genuine taste of the Amalfi Coast.

At Casa Angelina, we believe travel should be meaningful and intentional. The most rewarding experiences are often those that leave guests feeling more connected — to a place, to its culture and traditions, and ultimately to themselves.
