Exclusive: Hyatt brings ‘community-first’ lifestyle brand to Australian shores

Hyatt Hotels Corporation will introduce its lifestyle brand Caption by Hyatt to the Australian market next month with the opening of a 174-room new-build hotel in Sydney’s Haymarket.
Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney, located on Parker Street, opens on October 13, 2025, with local connection and community front and centre.
Part of Hyatt’s global portfolio of more than 1,300 properties, Caption by Hyatt is an upscale lifestyle brand centred around flexible, tech-enabled stays.
With locations in the United States, Japan, and China, Sydney marks its first opening in the Southern Hemisphere.
“The brand is all about people and place – bringing people together to connect with each other, but also our local community as well,” Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney General Manager, Temara Exton, told HM.
“Hyatt has a very strong reputation in luxury and lifestyle and is growing strongly in select service as well. I feel that there’s a lot of opportunity for this type of hotel, that has all the essentials but is a little bit more flexible and more fun.”
Talk Shop, an all-day social space that serves as the hotel’s café, bar, and community hub, will be the focal point of the hotel, playing host to local events, pop-ups, and collaborations – from trivia and poetry nights to live music and art showcases.
Interior designers Mitchell and Eades have weaved elements of local history into the hotel’s design, and a collaboration with local artist Chris Yee brings Sydney’s cultural heritage and urban energy to the fore.
The hotel operates under eco-conscious practices and partners with local suppliers for food, drink, and amenities.
Exton says the hotel will offer a “guest-led, host-supported” technology experience, with mobile check-in and keyless room entry available.
“With self-activated experiences, purposeful design, and F&B at the heart, including Talk Shop, our all-day social space, we’ve created places for the community to connect,” Exton said.
“We’re offering something fresh and accessible to the Australian market.”
Hyatt’s Vice President, Global Sales, Hyatt Sales Force, Asia Pacific, Kate Atkinson, said Caption by Hyatt meets the evolving needs of modern travellers.
