Como Hotels and Resorts is set to open its second property in Australia in early 2028 at a new-build development on Melbourne’s St Kilda Road.

Property developer Orchard Piper, alongside its partner, The Carter Group, appointed the family-owned, luxury hospitality company as the operator of the hotel and residential Headquartered in Singapore, Como Hotels and Resorts was founded 34 years ago by Christina Ong, and is recognised for its attentive service, holistic wellness, and fine cuisine. Today, its global portfolio features 18 hotels, resorts and private islands, including the multi-award-winning Como The Treasury in Perth, which opened in 2015. “Partnering with Como aligns perfectly with our vision to deliver a hotel that redefines Melbourne’s hospitality landscape,” said Orchard Piper Director Luke McKie. “Melbourne has seen an influx of new hotels in recent years, but few are in truly great locations. This property is perfectly situated for the city’s major events and will mark a return to a more understated and timeless luxury experience, one that’s not influenced by the latest trends. “Como has a market-leading reputation earned over decades of consistent delivery and is known the world over for its expertise in nurturing mind-body wellness, world-class cuisine and exacting service. They’re the ideal partner for Orchard Piper and The Carter Group, who share the same values and focus on more traditional principles of hospitality and service.” Spanning the first nine levels of The Carter Building, the hotel will offer 102 rooms – including a selection of custom-designed family suites – with an expansive Como Shambhala wellness centre occupying an entire floor. The hotel will also include a function room, state-of-the-art fitness centre and a 20-metre indoor lap pool complete with a thermal experience. The food and beverage offering, centred around seasonal, nutrition-rich food, will include a restaurant, café and bar. The Como brand will extend to the 54 premium private residences within the building, offering residents access to the company’s Comoclub loyalty program. The Carter Building, which commenced construction in August, has been designed by globally renowned KHA (Kerry Hill Architects), also responsible for Como The Treasury, in Perth’s State Buildings, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this month. The Carter Building will feature a bluestone facade in a nod to Melbourne’s architectural heritage, while the interiors will reflect understated luxury.
