Cook it up for dad with Sydney Seafood School

by James Wilkinson

With Father’s Day coming up in Australia this weekend (Sep 6), the team at Sydney Seafood School have come up with a brilliant idea – get dad involved in one of their virtual cooking classes.

This year, Sydney Seafood School (the cooking school at the Sydney Fish Market) have taken their popular cooking classes online with ‘SSS@Home’ kits that include all the fresh ingredients and premium pantry items for a generous seafood meal for two.

There’s a detailed printed recipe and step-by-step video for Dad to follow in his kitchen and a Zokoko artisanal mini-chocolate bar for dessert.

There’s a new recipe each week, some from leading chefs, others from the School’s collection of deliciously different favourites, and every one is a fun cooking experience resulting in a delicious meal for two.

Launched at the end of March, recipes have included a Spanish-inspired octopus dish from barbecue maestro, Lennox Hastie of Firedoor; sweet & sour barramundi from Mark Jensen, chef/co-owner of Sydney’s most popular Vietnamese restaurant, Red Lantern; and prawn and zucchini risotto from Alessandro Pavoni of Ormeggio at the Spit (which more than one home cook described as ‘the best risotto ever’).

Seafood School Manager, Roberta Muir says that the most popular dishes so far have been Singapore’s famous Chilli Crab and Black Pepper Crab.

“So, we’ve created a delicious salt and pepper crab recipe with a side dish of sambal water spinach for the Father’s Day weekend,” she says.

You can buy a kit to cook for Dad, send him a kit to cook-up his own seafood feast over the weekend, or order a 4-week Loyalty Pack so he can enjoy the fun of creating a different seafood meal each week for a month.

Loyalty packs are flexible if he needs to skip a week, and include an extra gift of Pepe Saya flavoured butters, valued at over $30 and perfect to have in the freezer for dressing up simple grilled fish, poultry or steaks. There are also gift vouchers so Dad can select his own kit or the timing of his 4-week pack.

Kits are $52.50, feed 2 people and are available on Fridays for collection from Sydney Fish Market or select Harris Farm stores (Drummoyne, Leichhardt, Wetherill Park, Bondi Beach, Potts Point, Lindfield, St Ives, Manly, Newcastle, Bowral, Orange) as well as delivery (for a fee) within 25km of Sydney Fish Market.
