Uga Resorts open new boutique retreat in Sri Lanka
The new property marks the brand’s third opening in just two years, following the launches of Uga Halloowella and Uga Prāva.
The group has also just launched a new two-tier structure across its portfolio, distinguishing an ultra-luxury boutique collection from a premium lifestyle collection, with the latest, Uga Ghiri, joining Uga Riva, Uga Ulagalla, Uga Halloowella, Uga Chena Huts and Uga Prāva within the ultra-luxury boutique tier.
Set on the site of former Sutherland Estate, Uga Ghiri occupies 11 acres of terraced hillside in Sri Lanka’s central highlands and includes views of Ella’s Nine Arch Bridge. Completed in 1919 and built entirely of brick and stone, the bridge is one of the country’s most recognisable landmarks, with guests able to watch the daily passage of mountain trains, the group stated.
“The opening of Uga Ghiri is a defining moment for Uga Resorts, and a natural fit within our ultra-luxury boutique collection built on privacy, a deep connection to place and genuine peace. Ella holds a unique position within Sri Lanka’s Hill Country, and this opening lets us share that setting with our guests in a way that feels entirely true to who we are,” Uga Resorts Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing, Marcelline Paul said.
A restored manor serves as Uga Ghiri’s main house for its 15 standalone villas, each designed as a private retreat spanning 1,200 square feet. The retreat features just one restaurant, open all day to guests to dine indoors or on the veranda, featuring international and local cuisine.
Completing the guest experience, Uga Ghiri Spa includes two treatment rooms, a sauna and steam room.
